A cardiologist is a physician who specializes in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases or conditions of the heart and blood vessels—the cardiovascular system. The most common diseases that cardiologists are dealing with are arrhythmia, heart failure, acute heart attack or post-infarction state, and congenital heart diseases. Commonly, during the first visit the cardiologist examines the patient and prescribes tests and analyzes, which could be necessary. The cardiologist also gives advises about disease prevention and coordinates subsequent treatment planning.
